Cooper the GWP Mix
2.5yr old neutered male GWP mix
Cooper is an affectionate and energetic 2.5-year-old male German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP) mix who is currently in search of his forever home. His journey with his previous owner began just a few months ago, but despite their best efforts, including working with a professional trainer, it has became clear that Cooper's strength and exuberance are more than she can manage, particularly when it comes to exercising him on a leash. As anyone familiar with this breed knows, dogs like Cooper thrive on the opportunity to stretch their legs and run freely, ideally off-leash, for about 95% of their activity time. This is why we are dedicated to helping find a suitable home for Cooper—one that can accommodate his high energy levels and provide him with the physical activity he desperately needs.
Cooper is a substantial dog, weighing approximately 85 pounds, which adds to the challenge of managing him on a leash. His size is complemented by a playful and friendly demeanor, especially when it comes to interacting with other dogs. However, his enthusiasm can sometimes get the better of him; he tends to become overly excited upon encountering other dogs, which leads to barking as a form of communication. We are actively working on managing this behavior to help him develop better social skills with his canine companions. Cooper's motivation is driven by treats and toys, making him an eager learner when it comes to training and positive reinforcement techniques.
Although Cooper has not undergone any formal hunting training, he exhibits a natural instinct and high drive, particularly when he spots squirrels in the yard, where he demonstrates his instinctive pointing and stalking behaviors. We are currently in the process of confirming how he interacts with cats, as we have been informed that he does well with them, but additional observation is needed to ensure compatibility. Interestingly, Cooper has had exposure to pet ducks, and while he showed curiosity by watching them from a contained yard, he displayed a commendable level of self-control by ignoring them.
In terms of his socialization with children, Cooper has been around kids as young as 16 months old and has shown a remarkable ability to adapt quickly, learning to be gentle and calm in their presence. This adaptability leads us to believe that he would thrive in a home with children, where he can share his playful spirit and affectionate nature. If you are looking for a loyal companion to join you on outdoor adventures, hikes, or simply to be a part of your family, Cooper could very well be the perfect addition to your life. Are you ready to embark on new adventures with this spirited and loving dog?
