Ace the GWP
8yr old neutered GWP
Ace finds himself in search of a forever home due to circumstances beyond his control, an unfortunate reality that many animals face. This particular canine is a German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP), and yes, you read that correctly! While he may resemble a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) at first glance, we can assure you that he is indeed a GWP with a reputable breeder lineage. In the world of rescue, having papers to confirm his breed is quite a rarity and a pleasant surprise!
This spirited dog has a passion for the outdoors, particularly when it comes to hunting. His enthusiasm for this activity is matched only by his love for playing fetch, where he eagerly retrieves toys and sticks, showcasing his energetic and playful nature. He is ecollar trained, which means he has undergone training that incorporates a specialized collar, enabling effective communication and commands. Beyond his athletic pursuits, he also has a soft side; he adores cuddling with his humans, seeking warmth and affection. However, it’s important to note that he has a strong aversion to being left alone. His deep love for companionship often translates into anxiety, which can escalate into panic when he finds himself isolated. Currently, he is kenneled alongside his vizsla brother, which provides him some comfort, but if left alone, he would require a high-anxiety kennel environment. Ideally, he would thrive in a home where someone is retired or works from home, allowing him the companionship he craves.
In social settings, he demonstrates a level of compatibility with other dogs, particularly when they are outside during hunting activities. However, within the confines of his home, he exhibits resource guarding behaviors when it comes to toys and food, which is something that potential adopters should be aware of. This behavior can be managed with proper training and guidance. Currently, he shares his living space with a cat, and through gradual acclimatization, he has learned to coexist peacefully with her. This indicates that he may be able to adapt to a home with a cat, but it is essential to approach this integration with patience and training. It’s worth mentioning that while he has adjusted to living with one cat, he tends to exhibit stalking behavior towards other cats he encounters outside, driven by his hunting instincts.
As he eagerly awaits the opportunity to find his forever home, it is crucial that he is placed in a nurturing environment where his needs for companionship and understanding are met. The goal is to ensure that he does not end up in a shelter, where the stress of such an environment could exacerbate his anxiety. He is ready to bring joy and loyalty to a loving family who can appreciate his unique personality and provide him the stability he deserves.
