Angus-Adopted
13 yrs old neutered male
Angus 13 year old neutered male German Wirehair Pointer/German Shorthair Pointer mix. Angus is a sweet old fella who likes to use his nose to find interesting sniffins' but has limited mobility and stamina due to age. Angus has spent his life in an indoor/outdoor kennel. Although there were other dogs next to him, he wasn't able to interact with other dogs due to his human being elderly and no longer able to care for Angus's physical or social needs. He likes his kennel, plays with toys by himself, is food motivated and portrays a curious and gentle nature. Angus has a persistent cough consistant with kennel cough and also spondylosis deformans where the vertebrae in his spine have begun to fuse due to age, limiting his mobility. Neither condition seemed to keep him from his interest, excitement and gentle nature during our meet and greet where he enjoyed meeting new people, meeting a new dog, playing with toys and having a snack from a hand. He did not respond to basic commands such as sit, stay or come here but was also nervous and recently placed in a new environment also following a recent castration surgery so somewhat inconclusive to whether he knows any commands or simply chose to not perform for a stranger.
Angus has been neglected in his care, his coat has not been washed or brushed, his teeth are yellow and covered plaque, some teeth missing. He has quite large calluses on his wrists and elbows from lots of hours laying on cold concrete floor. He was given a soft blanket in his kennel at the shelter and was observed attempting to eat it, as he had never had a soft blanket to lay on before. Angus is sensitive to new noises and strange new surfaces as he hasn't ever been exposed to such things as carpet, a TV or any goings on indoors all these are new and strange to him, but he did respond well and seemed to enjoy music and the radio playing. He was familiar with grass and was potty trained although throughout his life he has been left in a kennel and forced to mess then live, sleep and eat in his own mess.
Angus loves being petted and would benefit greatly from basic canine care like clean food and water bowls, a clean safe bed and the ability to go outside and sniff the air and be mentally stimulated.
