Bambam-pending adoption
3.5yr old spayed female GSP
BamBam is a 3½-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer with the biggest heart. She is incredibly affectionate and forms deep bonds with her people. If she could crawl inside your skin to be even closer to you, she absolutely would. Once she trusts you, she is a loyal shadow who wants nothing more than to be by your side—whether that’s cuddling on the couch, following you from room to room, or resting her head in your lap.
BamBam came to us directly from her previous owner after animal control required him to reduce the number of dogs in his care due to being over the legal limit. Because of that, we don’t know everything about her early life, but it’s clear she has experienced significant changes and transitions.
When she first came to us, she struggled with anxiety and lacked confidence. She didn’t really know how to play with toys, wrestle with another dog, or simply enjoy being a dog. Over the past eight months, she has made tremendous progress. She now loves to run and play, has learned to enjoy toys, and has even started showing natural pointing instincts by watching our other GSP. Watching her confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding.
She enjoys being outside, exploring, sniffing, watching birds, and being included in whatever her family is doing. She is happiest when she feels like a true member of the family.
Personality
BamBam is sweet, gentle, and incredibly loving. She has a soft, sensitive personality and responds best to calm, patient handling. She can be reserved with new people and may need a little time to warm up, but once she knows you’re safe, she is deeply loyal and affectionate.
She is a true Velcro dog who wants to be wherever her people are. She thrives on companionship and physical affection and loves nothing more than being close to her family.
Things She Enjoys
* Being close to her people
* Cuddling and physical affection
* Running and playing with other dogs
* Exploring outdoors and following scents
* Watching birds and wildlife
* Going on adventures with her family
* Learning and gaining confidence through positive experiences
Challenges
Because of her background and multiple transitions, BamBam still has some anxiety and benefits from consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. She can be hesitant in unfamiliar situations and needs time to build trust with new people.
She would benefit from continued training in:
* Crate training
* Riding comfortably in the car
* Household manners (she has learned that countertops sometimes have interesting snacks!)
* Building confidence in new environments
As a German Shorthaired Pointer, BamBam is intelligent, athletic, and thrives with both physical exercise and mental stimulation.
Medical Information
BamBam has a few ongoing medical needs that her future home or foster should be aware of.
She has persistent, recurrent ear infections that have been difficult to fully resolve. Despite treatment, there is concern that polyps or other tissue growth within her ear canals may be preventing medication from fully reaching the affected area. Continued veterinary evaluation and treatment will likely be needed.
She also has a tooth that our veterinarian has recommended be extracted sooner rather than later.
BamBam is currently enrolled in a Banfield Wellness Plan that remains active through the end of September. We would love for her to find a foster or forever home before then so her new family or the rescue can utilize the remaining coverage for wellness care and to help address her ongoing medical needs.
Why We Are Seeking Rescue
Making the decision to surrender BamBam has been incredibly difficult because she is such a wonderful dog.
After much thought, we’ve realized we can no longer meet her needs the way she deserves. Managing two high-energy adult German Shorthaired Pointers while balancing young children and family responsibilities has become more than we can realistically provide. BamBam deserves more individual attention, continued training, and an active lifestyle than we are able to give her at this stage.
Her Ideal Home
BamBam would thrive with an active family familiar with sporting breeds or one that is committed to meeting the needs of a high-energy, intelligent dog. She would love a home where she can hike, camp, swim, hunt, run, or simply be included in everyday adventures.
She would do well with patient adopters who understand that she may need a little time to settle in but will reward them with unwavering loyalty and affection. Once she loves you, she loves with her whole heart.
Our greatest hope is simply to find BamBam the home she deserves—a family who will continue building on the confidence she has gained, appreciate the incredibly loving dog she is, and give her the happy, active life every German Shorthaired Pointer deserves. She has overcome so much already, and we know her very best chapter is still ahead.
