Rhen
12mnt old spayed female
Sweet Rhen is a delightful English Pointer who found herself in rescue at the tender age of approximately 8 months. Her journey began when she was discovered wandering the picturesque hills and expansive ranches of Helmville, Montana. A kind-hearted tourist stumbled upon her as she roamed the roadside and decided to intervene by picking her up and taking her to a nearby local bar, where they hoped to find her a safe haven. Fortunately, a compassionate local resident took Rhen home for the night, providing her with shelter and care until our rescue team could arrive the following day to bring her to safety.
Upon her arrival, Rhen weighed a mere 26 pounds, which was significantly underweight for her breed and age. She was promptly treated for giardia, underwent deworming, received updates on all her vaccinations, and was microchipped to ensure her safety and security. After a period of proper care and nourishment, Rhen now proudly weighs 35 pounds, which is an ideal and healthy weight for her.
Rhen has blossomed in her new environment, and one of her favorite activities is off-leash running with her canine companions every day. She loves to find bones on the trail and carry them around. She will even pick up pinecones and carry these around the yard. This not only allows her to expend energy but also helps her build confidence in a social setting. Initially, Rhen exhibited timidity around new humans, often shying away from unfamiliar faces. However, she has made remarkable progress and now warms up to people both in the comfort of her foster home and while exploring the trails. Her strong motivation for food has played a crucial role in her training, particularly in addressing her fear of loud noises, which can be quite common in rescue dogs. Rhen has established a routine where she sleeps soundly in her kennel throughout the night, demonstrating her adaptability and comfort in her safe space. During car rides, she travels quietly in her kennel, although she may pant initially due to excitement or anxiety; however, she does not exhibit any signs of vomiting and eventually settles down to relax in her kennel.
Rhen has an endearing quirk where she performs her spinning moves, always turning to the right, which adds a unique charm to her personality. To further understand her behavior, she underwent a Brain MRI, which fortunately returned normal results, indicating that there are no underlying neurological issues affecting her. We are currently trialing various calming medications and prescription treatments to help manage her anxiety, but our experienced rescue team believes that with time, patience, and a dedicated individual willing to work with her at her own pace, Rhen will continue to thrive. She is re-directable when she begins to pace in her circles, indicating that she is eager to learn and respond positively to guidance.
In terms of obedience, Rhen has already mastered commands such as "place", "sit," "down," "wait" and "kennel," showcasing her intelligence and willingness to engage in training. She is both house trained and kennel trained, making her a well-behaved companion. She is learning fetch and will retrieve a toy thrown out the slider and bring it right int onto place. Rhen has developed a fondness for lounging in the sun, soaking up the warm rays that filter through the windows of the house, and she adores snuggling on the sofa with her human friends. Toys and bones have become a source of joy for her now that she understands their purpose and enjoys playing with them.
It is essential for Rhen to find a forever home with someone who is not only willing but also capable of providing the stability and structure that a young puppy requires to flourish. Could that someone be you? Rhen is waiting for a loving family to call her own, where she can continue to grow and thrive in a nurturing environment.
