Salem
12mnt old spayed female
Initially, Salem experienced significant separation anxiety, which is understandable. Her complete history remains a mystery. It's evident she was trained to hunt, as her tracking and hunting instincts are strong. She likely had never been inside a home before, as she was not housebroken.
Today, Salem is a transformed dog. She has undergone extensive kennel and crate training, enjoys plenty of playtime. She gets along exceptionally well with my 6-year-old daughter, and our 6-year-old female Rhodesian Ridgeback (RR), Daphne. However, my 8-year-old male RR, Magnus, has struggled more to accept Salem into the pack. Consequently, Salem stays in my professional dog kennels when I work long hours. She continues to thrive in her environment but clearly needs a home or handler who can engage her in tracking and hunting.
Salem has a very sweet nature and is highly trainable. She shows no food aggression and is now mostly housebroken. As a single mother of a 6-year-old daughter and a healthcare provider working long shifts in the ER, I recognize that Salem needs a home where someone can provide her with the opportunity to do what she was bred for: tracking and hunting. Salem truly deserves that.
Salem gets along well with other dogs. She is very gentle with my daughter's rabbit. My shop cat visits her outside the yard fence, and she shows interest without being aggressive. She is very friendly with both strangers and friends who visit my home. She has a "gentle mouth" when given treats and shows no food aggression. Salem is very playful with my 6-year-old female dog. At night, she sleeps either in a large crate in the living room or on the dog bed in my daughter's room. She stays in my spacious dog kennels in the shop while I am at work. She is highly intelligent and never starts trouble. Her separation anxiety has greatly improved with extensive training. She does bark if left alone at home without proper reassurance and exercise.
Could you be the home she is looking for?
